Colposcopy
A colposcopy is a procedure used to screen for cervical cancer (including “precancerous” cells), performed after finding an abnormality during a pelvic exam or Pap smear. During a colposcopy, the cervix is opened with a speculum for close examination of the vaginal walls and cervix. If an abnormality is present, the doctor will biopsy one or more small tissue samples for testing.
